Drainage & Product Sources
Water shows up in two forms
– Surface Water and Subsurface Water.
Surface refers to water accumulating on the surface of your property either in
grass, dirt or hard surface areas.
Problems arise when:
• Excess or poorly channeled roof line run-off or naturally low
lying areas result in a
collection of non-dispersing water.
• Water runs off a surface at a faster rate than normal absorption
capabilities
accommodate. For example, water on asphalt will run-off at faster rate than water
on
grass. This factor is called the Run-Off Coefficient.
Subsurface refers to water that flows into and then through the ground itself.
Problems arise when:
• Soil is impervious (like the Texas clay level) with a low to zero
hydraulic permeability,
meaning that water passes through the soil at a very slow rate.
• Water remains in pockets underground creating soggy and/or
unwanted low lying areas.
Drainage is usually needed to appropriately guide Roof Line run-off and
Landscape run-off. Specific products are used
to accommodate the different needs.
Drainage Solutions should be designed to collect water, channel it to a main
location and direct the flow into the sewer
system or properly distributed in the ground.
