Maintenance Page

Sustainable Irrigation begins with knowledge. Sprinkler systems need
periodic maintenance like almost everything, sprinkler heads,
sprinkler valves and controllers need to be in good working order
when you need them. Helping you recognize signs of sprinkler
problems before they create problems in your world is key to
maintaining a functional sprinkler system and a healthy yard.
Healthy yards help our environment. They protect your investment and
provide a comfortable place for our children and neighbors to enjoy.
Typically, your system runs in the middle of the night. We suggest
running your system for a few minutes per zone/station every few
weeks, when you are home and can watch it. This will help spot the
obvious. The water geysers, leaks running down the street, the wet
spots in the yard and the stressed plants are noticeable during a
visual inspection.

Poor irrigation can cause urban run-off and water waste. Run-off can
be easily corrected. These sprays need to be adjusted or watering
times need to be shortened to help eliminate overwatering and
subsequent run-off. Proper watering schedules can help improve plant
and turf health, by strengthening root growth.
Periodic Maintenance can prevent unnecessary water waste. Broken
heads, (like the one in this photo) can waste up to 40 gallons of
water a minute. That’s equates to filling a bath tub in a minute.
Not only is this letting money run down the drain, but there are
other costs. When the water pours out of this broken head, it is not
getting to the plants or turf in the rest of the station or zone
where the head is broken. That means stress to the rest of the turf
or plants. Stress can cause serious damage to plants and
unaddressed, may cause expensive preventable plant loss.

We love pets, but sometimes their inquisitive nature creates
problems you won’t know about until you take a few minutes to run a
maintenance check on your sprinkler system.

Routine maintenance checks performed by professionals can discover
wiring and valve issues before they fail. That can mean the
difference between simple
recovery
of grass and /or plants and the
replacement
expense of plants and grass. We can check for
appropriate ohms readings to electronic valves in the yard from the
controller. Routine maintenance checks by licensed professionals can
help you to plan for sprinkler expenses instead of being surprised
by them.
Replacing a fence usually means sprinkler maintenance. Relocating
sprinkler heads, repairing broken sprinkler lines, capping sprinkler
heads, changing nozzles or head types in the state of Texas all
require you do it yourself or Texas State Law requires you to engage
a Licensed Irrigator to perform the work. Fence companies and
landscape companies should not work on sprinkler systems unless they
have a licensed irrigation professional. Ask to see licenses before
the work is performed.
Try using this handy check list for starters. If you run into bigger
issues, call us.

Each Heads Up Sprinkler Compnay standard service call includes running
through every station and checking not just for the obvious but for
fine-tuning as well. We check to make sure you’re not watering your
windows, doors, sidewalks, driveways or street. We look for dry
spots, under coverage areas and over coverage areas. We check for
proper watering around the foundation. Most importantly, we check to
see if your system is at its best or if there are areas where we
recommend improvement. After a system check we can provide written
estimates for recommendations or modifications.
